Around 1900 the first ever recorded Golf Trading card release was produced in England by Felix Berlyn and Cope Bros, and Co Ltd. They produced two sets depicting scenes and strokes but not players. In 1910 an American sports release by a Tobacco company included a golfer or golf scene card.
It wasn't until the 1980's that Golf trading card release became a more regular part of the Market with Donruss producing PGA series in 1981 and 1982. The PGA Tour itself produced trading card release from 1983 through to 1990 with these sets remaining very hard to find to this day. The Pro Set company produced 3 golf trading card release for the PGA from 1990 through to 1992.
The arrival of Tiger Woods to the world of Golf started a revival in the Golf trading card market in the United States. Upper Deck saw this opportunity and entered the market with several release. Upper Deck introduced a variety of Autograph and Swatch cards of player T-Shirts and Gloves that were new to the Golf trading card market.
