The earliest recorded cricket cigarette cards were produced in the late 1880's. Cricket card release were then produced during the 1920's through to the 1950's by a range of companies to promote their products. In 1965 Scanlens produced their first ever cricket trading card release. A 39 card set featuring players like Doug Walters, Garfield Sobers and Bill Lawry. In 1978 Ardmona entered the market producing 5 different release up until 1983-84. In 1986 Scanlens produced it's final cricket release as Scanlens alone. In 1988-89 through to 1990-91 Scanlens produced 3 cricket trading card sets teamed up with the Stimorol company. In 1993-94 Futera trading card company started producing cricket trading card release with multiple release each season until it's last release in 1996. In 1997-98 Select Australia stepped into the Australian cricket trading card market after Futera went bust. Select produced trading card release for two seasons before taking an extended break and re-entering the market after almost ten years in 2007-08. In 2009-10 Select produced it's last retail cricket release. Several other card companies since the early 2000's have produced cricket trading cards including ESP, Topps and the annual Weetbix release through the Sanitarium breakfast cereal company.
