Select have tried to make some major changes with the 2012 product release, with new look insert sets and higher quality common series. Overall I think they have been successful with this and the Series 1 product quality seems much higher. The commons are a better quality gloss finished card and the level of damaged cards from packets is greatly reduced. Targeted at the younger market this set is shore to please with loads of action in every box. The biggest let down for this series though is the lack of a 1:72 packs insert set.

Common CardsThis season select has gone for a higher quality gloss finish on the common cards then previous series 1 release. They have the players standing out from a football design and have not used action shots. Personally I like the design and the cards will be good for getting signatures from your favourite player. The quality of the cards is good and more like a series 2 premium quality card.
Logo cards are a similar design to the player card on the back and feature the logo card jumping out of a coulouful background. The back of the card gives you the list of 12 cards you need to collect for your team set. I like the logo card featuring in series 1 as will be popular with kids keeping track of the players they need to add to their collection. SALE PRICE GUIDE

D.I.Y Laser Sticker + Peel and Reveal Gold CardMuch hyped and much confused prior to release these cards are quite simple in the concept. From a packet you receive a combined parallel card which will feature a laser sticker for one player or team logo and on the back you will receive a gold card for a different player or team logo. In each packet with these you will receive a frame to stick your laser sticker once peeled. The idea is to create 2 parallel sets, one being the laser stickers in frames and the other the revealed gold cards.
The final result is a success. The laser stickers are easy to peel and easy to stick to the frames and leave you with a solid plastic like gold card which shows no sign of having a sticker peeled from it. The quality of these are great and very few damaged cards have come from packs. The laser stickers look great in the standard green frame provided. Take care to get your stickers evenly stuck in the frame space and the correct way up on the frame. The stickers are quite hardy and at first if you don't succeed you can peel them off and stick them down again if done with care. I think these will hold some value in the long run as a card as they have taken the sticker concept and converted it into a card set. The gold cards have a credit card like feel and a nice quality gold finish. When the stickers are peeled they leave no sign of residue and the gold cards if place directly into single sleeves to protect will maintain a smooth look. The design is great and these are sure to be a hit with collectors. The backs of the cards look great with the team logo featuring. SALE PRICE GUIDE

Try Machine ( 1:6 Packets )
The try machine insert features 50 cards covering a wide range of high quality nrl players. Found 6 per box is a good breakdown for a set of this size making them just collectable enough to hold some value. The cards feature the player coming out of a striped background and foil imprint of Try Machine and the players name at the base of the card. Simple but stylish design.

Rookie Standouts ( 1:12 Packets )
Featuring 22 of the top rookies from season 2011 this set at 3 per box I think gets lost in the mix. The design is a little uninspiring and outside a few high profile rookies the list is a little thin. I think they have missed the mark on this insert set but some of the higher profile rookies will be worth collecting. The card features the text in a platinum type finish and does look nicer in hand than any picture can represent.

Showtime Holochrome ( 1:18 Packets )
The Showtime Holochrome cards feature some fantastic pairings from all clubs on a refractor like card. The cards look fantastic in hand and a shore to be a hit with collectors. This set for me at 2 per box is the standout of the collection.

Triple Centurions Mirror ( 1:36 Packets )
The one per box insert in this release is an innovation in card design for the Australian sports trading card market. The Mirror card is a double sided plastic type card with a glass like finish. The reverse side of the card reflects the front and the set features nine players that have reached the 300 game mark in Rugby League. Some great players in the set and the design of the cards although basic is nice. The only let down for the set is the players that are not included in the set such as Darren Lockyer.
